SoMa
SoMa, a name referring to the downtown district of South Main, is experiencing renewed interest and reinvestment. SoMa promotes the growth and development of an inclusive, independent and individual population that embraces its past, but is excited about its future in supporting new urban and hip sustainable living.
Community Bakery, Boulevard Bread, The Green Corner Store, The Root Cafe, LobLolly, and other businesses, old and new, are turning SoMa into a pedestrian oasis and supporting its surrounding neighborhood. SoMa has become the scene for various events including The Cornbread Festival and a Mardi Gras Parade. The Bernice Garden, a privately-owned sculpture park open to the public, also holds many special events.
On the first Friday of every month, over two dozen local eateries, art galleries and shops lining Main Street and adjacent streets keep their lights on late so everyone from children to retirees can enjoy the creative, eclectic and unique SoMa community. Businesses offer special menus, discounts and entertainment for SoMa After Dark.
