Encompassing about fifty square blocks surrounding historic MacArthur Park, the MacArthur Park Neighborhood was Little Rock’s first neighborhood. While several homes from the 1840’s to the 1860’s still survive, today the area is a mix of residential units, offices and commercial space.

MacArthur Park, the city's oldest municipal park, serves as the nucleus of the neighborhood and historic district bearing its name. This historic downtown park is thirty-nine acres and is home to the Arkansas Arts Center and the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History. Outdoor facilities include brick promenades, a pavilion, a bocce court and the scenic Contemplation Gardens. Also nearby are the Firehouse Hostel & Museum and an array of historic homes and buildings dating back to the 1800’s.

The neighborhood is currently the only Local Ordinance Historic District in the City of Little Rock, a designation which protects the historic character of the district through a design review process.
