Downtown Little Rock Partnership, Little Rock Zoo present Holidays on Main: A downtown holiday winter wonderland
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Nov. 23, 2020) – After their contactless drive-through Halloween event Shadows at Sixth proved to be successful, the Downtown Little Rock Partnership (DLRP), the Little Rock Zoo, and Simmons Bank have once again teamed up to create a safe and family-friendly experience – this time, a festive holiday celebration: Holidays on Main.
Holidays on Main is a COVID-safe winter wonderland featuring a high-tech tree, holiday scenes, lights and décor in Union Plaza and along Main Street in downtown Little Rock. The holiday installation will be free and open to the public from Monday, Nov. 30 through early January.
Although the traditional Bright the Night public tree lighting event will not happen this year due to COVID safety concerns, Holidays on Main will kick off with a livestreamed tree-lighting featuring Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr., DLRP Executive Director Gabe Holmstrom, and Little Rock Zoo Director Susan Altrui on the evening of Monday, Nov. 30 (exact time to be announced). The livestream can be watched via the City of Little Rock’s YouTube page, Downtown Little Rock Partnership’s Facebook page, and the local news outlets.
“The goal is for people to come downtown, enjoy the outdoor holiday lights experience, pop in to a local restaurant or shop, enjoy dinner, maybe get some holiday shopping done,” Holmstrom said, “and just to try to give people some sense of normalcy and joy during an anything-but-normal year.”
Holidays on Main is geared toward all ages and all faiths.
Holidays on Main was made possible due to sponsorship from Simmons Bank, set design and crafting by The Arkansas Repertory Theatre, and lights and special effects by CWP Productions.
