Artist Chosen for Simmons Tower Parking Garage Mural
Downtown Little Rock Partnership has taken the next step to adding a mural on the Simmons Tower parking garage, located at the southeast corner of 6th and Spring Streets. A review committee selected Little Rock artist Joel Boyd to complete the mural project.
“We are excited to add a new public art piece to the city’s growing collection,” said Gabe Holmstrom, Downtown Little Rock Partnership Executive Director. “Since June, downtown Little Rock has added three new murals, and we are already planning more for next year!”
Joel Boyd said, “I am honored to have had my design selected for the Simmons Tower Garage. The Downtown Little Rock Partnership is doing incredible things for Little Rock and I am very glad to be a part of it. My design is meant to illustrate a moment of reflection or a quiet moment of peace for the subject. I think a picture like this is well suited for the busy business district where it will be on display. I hope it's viewers will be inspired to take a moment to breathe and reflect on a good memory or a special place. Follow me on Instagram to see the mural come to life: @joelboydfineart.”
Maggie Hogan, Chief Financial Officer | Partner at Flake & Kelley Commercial, added, “We’re so pleased with the selection by the Public Spaces Committee. Joel Boyd’s concept captures the beauty of Arkansas, the vibrance of the city, and embraces the diversity of the people who call this home.”
The space contains three sections measuring approximately 28x26 feet, 28x9 feet, and 28x26 feet, and the mural will measure roughly 1,700 square feet. The project is sponsored by Flake & Kelley Commercial and the Simmons Tower ownership. Boyd will begin soon, and the project should be completed by the end of November.
